Using the FrontEnd
Special Tag Configuration
Special Tags are derived from ordinary SNMP variables, in most cases,
implementing special calculations to obtain performance indicators
based on raw SNMP data. Complex interface statistics (like bandwidth
utilization, error rates or broadcast rates) can be obtained by creating
special tags for each interface.
For each listed variable in the TAG view, you can manually configure
the data type and filtering.
Special TAG View
Using the bottom toolbar, you can:
 |
Tag Scan: Scans the selected device for interfaces and create special tags automatically.
|
 |
Stop Scan: Stops any active device scans (tag scan).
|
 |
Check All: Checks all scanned/added variables.
|
 |
Unselect All: Unselects all scanned/added variables.
|
To manually add a Special Tag, you can use the "Add Tag" button on the top toolbar.
Alternatively, you can right-click any empty space in the Tag View and select an
item from the context menu.
You can add:
 |
Statistical Items: Creates indicators based on raw data collected from a SNMP device.
|
| |
|
 |
Link Utilization: Measures
the usage of a link, in percent. Note that if the link is under
very low usage, the utilization might be reported as 0%, as
the value of this tag is an integer. If you need to measure
very low rates, you might instead use Delta
Items to monitor the ifInOctects and ifOutOctects variables
of the link. |
| |
|
 |
Link Input Error Rate (raw):
Measures the error rate of a link caused by input packets. |
| |
|
 |
Link Input Error Rate (percent):
Measures the percent error rate of a link caused by input packets. |
| |
|
 |
Link Output Error Rate (percent):
Measures the percent error rate of a link caused by output packets. |
| |
|
 |
Link Broadcast Rate:
Measures the non routed data rate of a link. |
| |
|
 |
Link Unicast Rate: Measures
routed data rate of a link. |
 |
Delta Items: Calculates the delta (in time) of raw SNMP data.
|
 |
Specific Trap Items:
Creates indicators that are triggered when specific trap events
are received from the SNMP device. In this case you must provide
a valid object identifier to be verified before triggering the
state.
|
 |
Generic Trap Items: Creates indicators that are triggered
when any trap events are received from the SNMP device. All traps
are capable of triggering the state. |
Note that you must enable and configure your SNMP device before
setting up traps in the server.
You can edit the properties of a particular tag by either selecting
it on the list and clicking on the "Tag Properties" button or
right-clicking the tag and choosing "Tag Properties" from the context
menu.
Tag Add/Remove Toolbar
Both options (adding or editing a Special Tag item) will display a
detailed Tag configuration dialog box.
Special Tag Configuration Dialog Box
You can customize the following settings:
 |
OPC Name: Name that will
be used by the server to publish this variable. |
 |
Description: Detailed
description of this special tag item. |
 |
Filter MIB-II Variables to Required
Parameters Only: If you check this box, the system
will filter the dropdownlist to show only the required items. |
 |
Parameter 1: First raw
SNMP parameter required to calculate the tag value. |
 |
Parameter 2: Second raw
SNMP parameter required to calculate the tag value. |
 |
Parameter 3: Third raw
SNMP parameter required to calculate the tag value. |
 |
1st Order Filter: Check
to create an additional tag (with "_Filtered" in the name) that
applies a low pass filter in this item. |
The parameter list is loaded from the main
OID List View from this device, so it's recommended that you scan
the device for MIB-II OIDs before creating/editing Special Tags.
The required parameters changes when creating different Special
Tags. This dialog shows beside each parameter (1, 2 or 3) what MIB-II
variable is required to calculate the Special Tag.
Please notice that if you use a wrong parameter instead of the required
one, the Tag calculation will fail.
After editing or adding the tag, click on the
"OK" button to close the Special Tag Edit dialog and update the
item settings. If you want to discard all changes, just click the
"Cancel" button to close the dialog.
