Before you can monitor your computers, the server must be configured, so you will have to define which computers should be monitored and choose all settings to achieve a good configuration. All settings and computer configuration can be made using the , which is a standalone application that configures the main OPC Server. These steps will show you how to build a simple configuration file for monitoring computers.

With XRatel PerfMon Server Configuration opened, the first step is to discover all computers that should be monitored. To detect computers on your network, press the Network Scan Wizard button.
At the second step, select the option Local Network and go to the next step clicking on Next.
Network Browsing
In the third step, XRatel Perfmon OPC/DDE Server Configuration will attempt to find all computers within your subnet range and WMI enabled. You can monitor only computers that have WMI enabled and configured. In Windows XP follow these instructions. If you use Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2003 Server WMI is automatically configured and enabled for users in "Administrators" group, but for security is strong recommended, that you configure WMI for another user. Follow these instructions for this.
In the fourth step, all computers found will be listed. Select which you want to monitor and go to the next step.
Now, Computer Browsing will scan for CPU, Hard Disks and memory devices in all computers selected for monitoring. Go to the next step when the scan be completed.
All components found in all computers will be listed in step 6. XRatel PerfMon OPC/DDE Server Configuration will create Performance Tags for each one.

Go ahead to the next step and complete the setup clicking on Finish button.
Now, select all wanted Performance Tags by clicking on History column of each tag. Activated tags are checked and its symbols are colored, while disabled tags are not checked and has gray symbols. Now, choose all desired tags for monitoring by OPC in "Enable" column box. And choose all desired tags for monitoring by History Service used by Tag Explorer and Health Analyst in "History" column. Activated tags are checked and its symbols are colored, while disabled tags are not checked and have gray symbols.

Click on Activate Profile button to update the server and reflect this new configuration. Then, confirm the publish clicking on Yes.

Start the server with XRatel PerfMon OPC/DDE Server Server Monitor and review its configuration. Probably you'll need to Reload the Server, clicking on Reload Server button. In the screenshot below, it is not scanning any computer and current Server Status is Normal.

If your server status indicates Scan Overlap, you need to change some computer specific configuration settings. Please refer to detailed FrontEnd configuration section for information on how to do that.
To execute the History Server go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and find XRatel PerfMon Data Historian Service, and with a right click a pop up menu will open, then click into start.
